Paclitaxel, a natural secondary metabolite from the bark of Taxus Taxus, is a natural secondary metabolite. It has been proved to have good antitumor effect, especially for ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and breast cancer with high incidence of cancer. Paclitaxel is the most popular anticancer drug in the international market in recent years. 


It is considered to be one of the most effective anticancer drugs in the next 20 years. In recent years, the population of the earth and the incidence of cancer have increased sharply, and the demand for paclitaxel has also increased significantly. Taxol, which is currently needed in clinical and scientific research, is mainly extracted from Taxus, because the content of taxol in plants is very low (only 0.069% of the highest known Taxus bark is at the highest level), and about 13.6kg of the bark of the taxol can be 1g for paclitaxel, and it takes 3-12 years to cure a ovarian cancer patient. The above Taxus also caused extensive felling of Taxus, resulting in the endangered species. In addition, yew resources are very poor, and the growth of Taxus is slow. 


This has caused great difficulties in the further development and utilization of taxol. Although chemical synthesis has been completed, because of the stringent requirements, low output and high cost, it has no industrial significance. The semi synthetic method of paclitaxel has been relatively mature, and is considered to be an effective way to expand paclitaxel source besides artificial planting. Semi synthetic method can make more use of plant resources, but it is not essentially different from the method of direct extraction of taxol. It needs to consume a large number of Taxus trees and still can not fundamentally solve the problem of plant source shortage. Obviously, paclitaxel extraction from Taxus plant tissues is extremely limited. It is very important to find new ways to obtain taxol.
